Music is the 43rd most popular major in the country with 25,910 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, music graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $27,160 and had an average of $24,560 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 4,060 music graduates with average earnings and debt of $27,923 and $25,259 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,369 music graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,343 and $26,790 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Music for a Bachelor’s” ranking analyzed 72 colleges that offered a degree in music. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality music programs as well as strong veteran support.

Columbia College Chicago did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Music for a Bachelor’s ranking, coming in at #25. Located in Chicago, Illinois, this medium-sized private not-for-profit school handed out 61 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s music students in 2020-2021.

Our most recent data shows that 140 of the 6,769 students enrolled at Columbia College Chicago were GI Bill® students, of which 98 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
