Across the Southeast region, there were 2,817 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $30,148 and $24,945 respectively.

The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great journalism programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

Out of the 12 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Journalism for a Master’s that were part of this year’s ranking, The University of Alabama landed the #1 spot on the list. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, this large public school awarded 20 degrees to qualified masters’s journalism students in 2020-2021.

In addition to being on our southeast region master’s degree vets studying journalism list, UA has also earned the #3 rank in our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking.According to our most recent data, UA supports 37,840 students, and 2,081 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 1,128 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $7,975. On top of their other funding sources, 357 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. UA does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

With a freshman retention rate of 87%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

University of Arkansas is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 10 masters’s journalism degrees to qualified students.

UARK did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #5 on our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.Our most recent data shows that 11 of the 27,562 students enrolled at UARK were GI Bill® students, of which 11 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Columbia, South Carolina is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s journalism degrees to 21 students in 2020-2021.

UofSC not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #4 on our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.According to our most recent data, University of South Carolina - Columbia supports 35,470 students, and 1,609 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 651 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
