The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great education programs and a strong support system for non-traditional students.

Western Governors University tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that are best for non-traditional education students. Located in the suburb of Salt Lake City, WGU is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.
About 0.7% of WGU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. All 150,116 students take classes exclusively online at WGU.
The #2 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Utah State University. USU is a very large public school located in the city of Logan. USU also took the #2 spot in our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region rankings.

Brigham Young University - Provo comes in at #4 in this year's ranking. BYU is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Provo. BYU not only placed well in our non-traditional rankings. It is also #1 on our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 0.4%. Approximately 12,325 students take at least one class online at BYU. There are roughly 4,504 part time students in attendance at BYU.

Boise State University earned the #5 spot in our 2021 rankings. Boise State is a fairly large public school located in the city of Boise. Boise State also took the #6 spot in our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region rankings.
