With all of the options students have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual has developed its “Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 9,210 people earned their degree in health/medical prep programs, making the major the 104th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, health/medical prep programs graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $28,184 and had an average of $21,459 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 2,479 health/medical prep programs graduates with average earnings and debt of $31,182 and $18,481 respectively.
This year’s “Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region” ranking analyzed 99 colleges that offered a degree in health/medical prep programs. To top this list, a school must have a successful health/medical prep programs program that graduates more students in the field than other colleges that offer the same major.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Marshall University. The school came in at #4 for the Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region. Located in Huntington, West Virginia, this fairly large public school handed out 98 diplomas to qualified ’s medical prep students in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Arkansas State University - Beebe. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region list. ASU-Beebe is a small public school situated in Beebe, Arkansas. It awarded 174 ’s medical prep degrees in 2020-2021.
East Mississippi Community College came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region ranking. This small school is located in Scooba, Mississippi, and it awarded 78 ’s medical prep degrees in 2020-2021.
Eastern Virginia Medical School ranked #7 on this year’s Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region list. Eastern Virginia Medical School is a public institution located in Norfolk, Virginia. The school has a small population, and it awarded 68 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.

With a freshman retention rate of 87%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 2.0%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
Medical University of South Carolina ranked #10 on this year’s Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region list. Charleston, South Carolina is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s medical prep degrees to 27 students in 2020-2021.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 1.1%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. The undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 6 to 1 is a sign that students will have more opportunities to engage with their professors one-on-one.

Furman University came in at #14 in this year’s edition of the Most Well Attended Medical Prep Major in the Southeast Region ranking.
