In 2020-2021, 40,596 people earned their degree in public health, making the major the 26th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, public health graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $43,158 and had an average of $27,396 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 3,760 public health graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,564 and $26,554 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,378 public health graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,112 and $26,227 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Public Health for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 27 colleges that offer a degree in public health. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent public health programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

With a ranking of #24, The University of Texas at El Paso did quite well on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Public Health for a Bachelor’s list. The University of Texas at El Paso is a large school located in El Paso, Texas that handed out 41 bachelors’s public health degrees in 2020-2021.

In addition to being on our southwest region bachelor’s degree vets studying public health list, UTEP has also earned the #15 rank in our “Best Public Health Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.According to our most recent data, UTEP supports 24,879 students, and 1,873 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 942 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $5,990. On top of their other funding sources, 2 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. American InterContinental University - Online ranked #25 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Public Health for a Bachelor’s list. Schaumburg, Illinois is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private for-profit school handed out bachelors’s public health degrees to 107 students in 2020-2021.

AIU Online also took the #20 spot in our “Best Public Health Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.Among the 15,415 students enrolled at AIU Online, 640 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
