Required Skills

This is a great major for students who enjoy taking apart devices and putting them back together. Courses will involve hands on training and will require problem solving skills. Students who are able to find creative solutions to problems will do well.

Strong communication skills are helpful in school and in the field. As an Electronics Maintenance and Repair Technician you will have a lot of interaction with clients and coworkers. You should be able to clearly express concerns and explain solutions.

Students will need to have the ability to identify colors because there are many color-coded components in electronics. Most programs require students to acquire an apprenticeships in order to gain work experience and to learn the fundamentals first hand. You will work alongside a professional within the field, in addition to hours in the classroom.

Individuals with a degree in Electronics Maintenance & Repair can enter into a few different career paths; these include electronics installers and repairs, electricians, electrical and electronic engineering technicians, drafters, or telecommunications equipment installers and repairers except line installers. The work in most of these fields involves hands-on repair work in various settings as well as assisting engineers and other professionals with design and development.
