Philosophy is the 83rd most popular major in the country with 10,054 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, philosophy graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $30,510 and had an average of $21,514 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Middle Atlantic region, there were 2,069 philosophy graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,140 and $23,053 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 1,706 philosophy graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,457 and $25,851 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Middle Atlantic Region for Philosophy for a Bachelor’s” ranking analyzed 12 colleges that offered a degree in philosophy. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great philosophy programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
