It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for students. College Factual has developed its “Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 36,301 people earned their degree in design and applied arts, making the major the 36th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, design and applied arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $31,426 and had an average of $25,481 in loans still to pay off.
Across Texas, there were 1,889 design and applied arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $29,365 and $26,054 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas” ranking, we looked at 58 colleges that offer a degree in design and applied arts. This ranking identifies schools that graduate the most students in design and applied arts.

Out of the 58 schools in the Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas that were part of this year’s ranking, University of North Texas landed the #1 spot on the list. University of North Texas is a large public school situated in Denton, Texas. It awarded 144 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend The University of Texas at Austin. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas list. UT Austin is a public institution located in Austin, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 104 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 97%. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 2.3% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend The University of Texas at Dallas. The school came in at #5 for the Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas. This large school is located in Richardson, Texas, and it awarded 68 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
With a freshman retention rate of 90%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 3.8%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

University of Houston ranked #8 on this year’s Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas list. This large school is located in Houston, Texas, and it awarded 53 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
With a freshman retention rate of 86%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 4.4%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
Texas Christian University landed the #9 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas ranking. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, this fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 43 diplomas to qualified ’s design students in 2020-2021.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 2.7% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. With a freshman retention rate of 92%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.

Texas State Technical College landed the #11 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas ranking. Texas State Technical College is a fairly large public school situated in Waco, Texas. It awarded 35 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
Houston Community College ranked #12 on this year’s Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas list. Located in Houston, Texas, this large public school awarded 47 diplomas to qualified ’s design students in 2020-2021.
Wade College landed the #13 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Texas ranking. Located in Dallas, Texas, this small private for-profit school handed out 32 degrees to qualified ’s design students in 2020-2021.
With a undergrad student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1, it’s easy to see that the school is committed to helping their undergraduates succeed. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 100%.
