Our Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region ranking is part of that endeavor.
We analyzed 24 colleges and universities across the Southwest Region to determine which were the best for Sri Lankan students in the Southwest Region. Instead of depending on subjective information, we focus on objective factors to determine this ranking. These factors include such things as the total number of international students at the school and the school's overall quality.
Since one ranking on its own is not enough to give you a complete understanding of your educational options, you can refine this list by location. We've also developed a number of other tools and rankings based on other factors. These other rankings highlight colleges that excel in other factors such as value or diversity as well as schools that excel in serving different groups of students such as online students or returnings adults.

The University of Texas at Dallas tops this year’s ranking as the best school for Sri Lankan students in the Southwest Region. Located in Richardson, Texas, the large public school handed out 4,825 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
International students make up 14.5% of the total student body at the school. Students from as far away as India, China, and Taiwan come to UT Dallas to study.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 90%.
A rank of #2 on our list means Rice University is a great place for Sri Lankan students in the Southwest Region working on their bachelor’s degree. Rice University is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in Houston, Texas that handed out 1,364 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
International students make up 23.3% of the total student body at the school. Students studying at Rice come from such countries as China, India, and South Korea.
With a freshman retention rate of 97%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Texas A&M University - College Station. It ranked #3 on our 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan students in the Southwest Region list. Texas A&M University - College Station is a large public school located in College Station, Texas that handed out 13,409 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 6.4% of the total student population at the school is international. The top three countries sending students to study at Texas A&M College Station are China, India, and South Korea.
With a freshman retention rate of 94%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students.
Out of the 24 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Southern Methodist University landed the #4 spot on the list. This fairly large private not-for-profit school is located in Dallas, Texas, and it awarded 2,105 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of the total number of students at the school, 9.0% are international. The top three countries sending students to study at SMU are China, India, and Saudi Arabia.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 90%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Texas Tech University. It ranked #5 on our 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan students in the Southwest Region list. Texas Tech University is a large public school located in Lubbock, Texas that handed out 6,884 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

University of Arizona ranked #10 on this year’s Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region list. University of Arizona is located in Tucson, Arizona and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 8,117 bachelor’s degrees to qualified undergraduates.
Of the total number of students at the school, 6.7% are international. Students from as far away as China, India, and Saudi Arabia come to University of Arizona to study.
University of Oklahoma Norman Campus landed the #11 spot on the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region. Located in Norman, Oklahoma, the large public school handed out 5,069 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 5.0% of the total student population at the school is international. The top three countries sending students to study at University of Oklahoma are China, India, and Saudi Arabia.
With a freshman retention rate of 87%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students.
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology did quite well in the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region ranking, coming in at #12. New Mexico Tech is a small public school situated in Socorro, New Mexico. It awarded 225 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 4.7% of the total student population at the school is international. Students from as far away as China, India, and Nepal come to New Mexico Tech to study.
The student-to-faculty ratio of 8 to 1 is a sign that students will have more opportunities to engage with their professors one-on-one.

University of North Texas ranked #13 on this year’s Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region list. Located in Denton, Texas, the large public school awarded 8,156 diplomas to qualified bachelor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 7.5% of the total student population at the school is international. Students from as far away as India, China, and Saudi Arabia come to UNT to study.
LeTourneau University landed the #14 spot on the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region. LeTourneau University is a small private not-for-profit school located in Longview, Texas that handed out 358 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #16, MSU Texas did quite well on the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region. This medium-sized public school is located in Wichita Falls, Texas, and it awarded 1,168 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of the total number of students at the school, 7.6% are international. Students from as far away as Dominica, India, and China come to MSU Texas to study.
Sam Houston State University ranked #17 on this year’s Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region list. SHSU is a large public school situated in Huntsville, Texas. It awarded 4,433 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 1.2% of the total student population at the school is international. Students studying at SHSU come from such countries as China, India, and Turkey.
Northern Arizona University landed the #18 spot on the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region. This large public school is located in Flagstaff, Arizona, and it awarded 6,331 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of the total number of students at the school, 2.2% are international. The top three countries sending students to study at NAU are Kuwait, China, and Saudi Arabia.
New Mexico State University - Main Campus came in at #19 in this year’s edition of the Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region ranking. Las Cruces, New Mexico is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelor’s degrees to 2,425 students in 2020-2021.
International students make up 5.4% of the total student body at the school. The top three countries sending students to study at NMSU Main Campus are Kuwait, Mexico, and India.

Texas Wesleyan University did quite well in the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region ranking, coming in at #20. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Fort Worth, Texas, and it awarded 322 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of the total number of students at the school, 7.9% are international. Students from as far away as Saudi Arabia, China, and India come to Texas Wesleyan to study.
The University of Texas at San Antonio landed the #21 spot on the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region. UTSA is a public institution located in San Antonio, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 6,440 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 2.7% of the total student population at the school is international. Students studying at UTSA come from such countries as India, Mexico, and China.
University of Central Oklahoma came in at #22 in this year’s edition of the Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region ranking. With a ranking of #24, The University of Texas at El Paso did quite well on the 2021 Best Colleges for Sri Lankan Students in the Southwest Region. UTEP is a large public school situated in El Paso, Texas. It awarded 3,981 bachelor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 5.6% of the total student population at the school is international. Students studying at UTEP come from such countries as Mexico, Kuwait, and India.
