Out of all those awarded degrees, 6,377 went to undergraduates in the Southwest region of the United States.

Northern Arizona University tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Southwest Region that are best for non-traditional education students. Located in the city of Flagstaff, NAU is a public college with a fairly large student population. NAU also made our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region list, coming in at #8.

The student loan default rate at NAU is lower than is typical, just 6.6% of students default in three years. There are approximately 7,024 students at NAU that take at least one class online. 7,213 students are part time. NAU does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Phoenix, AZ

Grand Canyon University landed the #2 spot in our 2021 best education schools for non-traditional students. Located in the large city of Phoenix, Grand Canyon University is a private for-profit college with a very large student population.

About 5.6% of Grand Canyon University students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. 70,295 students at Grand Canyon University are exclusively online. About 72,917 of the students at Grand Canyon University are attending part time. Grand Canyon University does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Waco, TX

The #3 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Baylor University. Located in the medium-sized city of Waco, Baylor is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, Baylor has also earned the #1 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region ranking.

About 3.6% of Baylor students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 520 students at Baylor that take at least one class online. About 766 of the students at Baylor are attending part time. Baylor does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

University of New Mexico - Main Campus earned the #4 spot in our 2021 rankings. UNM is a very large public school located in the city of Albuquerque. As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNM, the school also landed the #7 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region ranking.

Approximately 7,371 students take at least one class online at UNM. There are roughly 7,422 part time students in attendance at UNM. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

Arizona State University - Tempe landed the #6 spot in our 2021 best education schools for non-traditional students. ASU - Tempe is a very large public school located in the medium-sized city of Tempe. As a testament to the quality of education offered at ASU - Tempe, the school also landed the #2 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region ranking.

About 6.2% of ASU - Tempe students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average.
