Mechanical Engineering is the 21st most popular major in the country with 46,178 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, mechanical engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $69,007 and had an average of $23,944 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Plains States region, there were 2,950 mechanical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $67,644 and $25,449 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,609 mechanical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,046 and $29,021 respectively.

The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great mechanical engineering programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

University of Missouri - St Louis did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for ME for a Bachelor’s ranking, coming in at #22. UMSL is a fairly large public school situated in Saint Louis, Missouri. It awarded 27 bachelors’s ME degrees in 2020-2021.

UMSL did well in our major quality rankings, too.
