When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Education for a Bachelor’s” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.

In 2020-2021, 327,871 education students received their degree, making the major the 4th most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $46,202 and had an average of $24,437 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 45,404 education graduates with average earnings and debt of $43,621 and $25,804 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 16,506 education graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,343 and $26,790 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Education for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 156 colleges that offer a degree in education. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent education programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

University of Illinois at Chicago did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Education for a Bachelor’s ranking, coming in at #23. Located in Chicago, Illinois, this large public school awarded 130 degrees to qualified bachelors’s education students in 2020-2021.
