General English Literature is the 24th most popular major in the country with 40,481 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, general English literature graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $29,881 and had an average of $23,769 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 4,484 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $29,583 and $24,829 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 3,735 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,343 and $26,790 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for English for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 75 colleges that offer a degree in general English literature. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general English literature programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
